
We all know that World Environmental Day is celebrated on June 5th of every year. The main theme is to raise global awareness among the people and implementing some activities to protect nature and earth , leading to a positive and healthy environment for all.
World Environmental Day is run by the *United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)*. This day was established in the year 1972 by united nation general assembly.
For the first time India is hosting World Environmental Day to bring awareness about *plastic and it’s pollution* , overall second time.
*BEAT PLASTIC POLLUTION* is the theme for this year.
Plastic pollution is caused due to the accumulation of plastic products like plastic bags and plastic bottles etc.,. Plastic is a polymeric material whose molecules are very large. It is one of the main reasons that leads to plastic pollution.

The pollution of plastic is mainly seen in oceans , rivers and on land. A lot of plastic waste is thrown away in the rivers and causing the pollution. This can kill lot of fishes and marine mammals in the water bodies.
During the rainy season , the plastic rubbish that has fallen on the road gets washed away into the nearby water canals and drains , leading to overflowing. Also , the water quality is damaged due to the plastic waste. Due to accumulation of plastic waste, different types of insects and mosquitoes are formed that causes harmful diseases in humans.

*Solutionventive measures* :
• It can be prevented by starting usage of paper or cloth bags
• Avoiding plastic bags

• Proper disposal of plastic
• It can be recycled and can be used in many ways
*Plastic Pollution Facts* :
• Every year the world uses upto 5 trillion plastic bags
• Each year , at least 13 million tonnes of plastic end up in oceans, the equivalent of a full garbage truck every minute
• In last decade, we produced more plastic than in whole last century
• 50 percent of the plastic we use is single – use or disposable
• We buy 1 million plastic bottles every minute
• Plastic makes up 10 percent of all of the waste we generate
